VACCINE TYPE

  • U.S.:
    • Three types of recombinant subunit particle vaccines have been developed; in the U.S., only the 9-valent vaccine (9vHPV; Gardasil 9) has been available since late 2016.
      • 9-valent (types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58)
      • Quadrivalent (types 6, 11, 16, 18)
      • Bivalent (types 16, 18)
  • Global:
    • Bivalent, quadrivalent, and nonavalent recombinant VLP HPV vaccines are available; multiple products are WHO-prequalified.
  • HPV vaccines contain virus-like particles (VLPs) that do not contain genetic material, so they are non-infectious.
